Au Natural Anti-Aging Serum

It’s no secret…somebody says DIY and my eyes light up like it’s Christmas. I started dabbling with essential oils a couple of years ago but have recently invested quite a bit of time really learning about them.

As I complete my Aromatherapy Certification, I thought I would put all of the clinical trials and information I have crammed into my head to good use. Since I am pushing forty…what better use than an anti-aging serum right?!
Prior to using essential oils on your skin, you will want to ensure that you dilute the with a carrier oil. There are so many fabulous carrier oils that you can use, however, because Sweet Almond Oil is rich in vitamins E and K, absorbs well and is odourless, I have chosen this one.
Please also keep in mind that not all essential oils are safe for use during pregnancy or for children so it’s best to always check the contraindications of the oil before use.
For this particular blend, my objective was to select a blend of oils that have skin firming and regenerative properties. You don’t need to use all of the oils below but here is what I have created and am quite happy with so far.
In a 30ml Amber glass bottle (available at most Health food stores) fill it half way with your carrier oil. Next add the following:
  • 10 drops of Neroli Oil
  • 5 drops of Frankinsense Oil
  • 2 drops of Lemon Essential Oil
  • 1 drops of Rosemary Oil
  • 2 drops of Sandalwood Oil
It is recommended that your essential oils  comprise between 2-3% maximum of your total dilution and only 1% for babies, small children, frail elderly and the face. As you can see, the blend I use above exceeds what is recommended for the face, however, I have patch tested and am monitoring the results.
Now you can fill the bottle with your carrier oil leaving about half an inch from the top.
If you are new to using essential oils, it is always recommended to patch test the mixture before use on the inside of your wrist and wait 24 hours to ensure that you will not have an allergic reaction or any sensitivities. Especially since this is your face we are talking about here!!!
Once you have done so apply to a clean face before bedtime. Since all citrus oils (neroli and lemon in this case) are considered ‘photo toxic’ and it is recommended that sunlight or artificial uv rays (tanning beds) be avoided for 12 hours after application.
